Muslims around the world today look at scholars and books of Fiqah for guidance on how to live as good Muslims. Consequently they start to associate themselves with one maslak or a sect. But how many of us turn to Quran on a daily basis every time we need an answer to a question on how to deal with any situation?
I am certain that nobody will disagree with me that if we only stick to Quran and Sunnah, not only it will be easy to follow simple and beautiful teachings of Islam, but also Muslim ummah will be unified. Then there will be no need for masalik and madhabs. Do we ever wonder what does 'ROPE of ALLAH' mean in the following Ayah.
And hold firmly to the ROPE of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided. (Al e Imran:103)
Surely the Quran is the only rope of ALLAH which all Muslims should hold today so that they don't become divided. Further, do we ever wonder that by saying that 'I am Sunni or Shia and further worse Maliki, Hanafi, Jaafri, Zaidi, Ahl-e-Hadith, Deobandi, Wahabi or anything else' we are going against clear commandments of ALLAH of 'Wa la Tafaraqu' in the above Ayah and other Ayahs like
And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment (Al e Imran:105)
Verily, those who divide their religion and break up into sects, you have no concern with them in the least. Their affair is only with Allah, Who then will tell them what they used to do. (Al Anaam:159)
Conclusion:
Brothers and Sisters, I agree we all cannot be the same but we can follow our beautiful book Holy Quran and accept each others differences and live peacefully together. As long as we worship one God and follow the sunnah of our Holy Prophet we would never be divided again. Just remember there were perfectly good Muslims perhaps much better than us for centuries before the Fiqah and Sects were invented.
